Privacy Policy

A telephone call produces a specific and quite revealing kind of record: who you called, when, and for how long. This explains exactly what we keep of that, what we do not, and why.

Who we are

Kliwe, LLC operates Kliwe, a service for placing telephone calls from a web browser. Our registered address is 131 Continental Dr, Suite 305, Newark, DE 19713, United States. For anything in this policy, write to privacy@kliwe.com.

What we collect

  • Account information — your email address, a password hash, and the language and settings you choose.
  • Call detail records — the number you dialled, the destination it resolved to, when the call started, how long it lasted, the rate applied and the amount charged. This is the most sensitive category here and it is treated as such.
  • Balance and payment records — what you topped up, when, and what you have spent. Card details are handled entirely by our payment processor and never reach us.
  • Numbers you have verified or rented — a mobile number you verified for caller ID, or an inbound number you rent, and the record that the verification succeeded.
  • Transcripts, only if you switch them on — the words spoken on your own calls, as text, with no audio. Off by default, priced before the switch, deletable one at a time, and deleted automatically after the period stated in the product.
  • Technical logs — requests, IP address, browser, timestamps, connection quality metrics and error detail, kept so we can debug call failures and detect abuse.
  • Site usage — aggregate, privacy-respecting analytics on this marketing site. No advertising trackers, and nothing about your visit is sold.

We never record audio. No recording of a call is made, requested or stored at any point, and there is nowhere in this product for one to be. What an account can switch on is a written transcript: with it on, the words spoken on that account’s calls are transcribed as the call happens and kept as text. It is off unless somebody turns it on, the page that offers it states the price and the retention period above the switch, each transcript can be deleted immediately, and all of them are deleted automatically after that period. The person at the other end is not asked and is not told — in many countries that is their decision as much as yours, and we cannot obtain it for you.

Why we process it

  • To connect your calls — performance of our contract with you. The number has to be passed to a carrier for the call to ring at all.
  • To bill you accurately — the call record is what makes the receipt possible. A service that could not tell you what a call cost would not be this one.
  • To comply with law — operators carrying voice traffic are required to retain call detail records for a period that varies by jurisdiction, and to respond to lawful requests.
  • To keep the service safe — our legitimate interest in preventing fraud, which in this industry means stolen cards being used to buy calls to expensive destinations.
  • To fix what breaks — our legitimate interest in debugging failed calls and poor audio, which is what the technical logs are for.
  • To contact you about the service — service notices are part of the contract. Marketing email is consent-based and every message has a working unsubscribe.

Who we share it with

We do not sell personal data and we do not share it for anyone else’s marketing. Specifically, we do not sell or share who you call. We share data only with:

  • The carriers who connect your calls. To ring a number, that number and a caller ID have to be passed to the network that will ring it. This is unavoidable and is how every telephone call on earth works.
  • The person you are calling, to the extent of the caller ID you chose to present.
  • Our payment processor, Stripe, which handles the card details for top-ups.
  • Infrastructure subprocessors that host, store or monitor on our behalf, under contract and only for those purposes.
  • Authorities, where we are legally compelled. We will tell you unless we are prohibited from doing so.

A current list of subprocessors is available from privacy@kliwe.com.

International transfers

A call to another country is, by definition, an international transfer of the fact that the call happened. Beyond that, our infrastructure and supporting systems may process limited data in more than one region, using appropriate safeguards where required. If storage in a specific jurisdiction is a requirement for you, ask before topping up rather than after.

How long we keep it

  • Call detail records — retained for the period required by the law applicable to us, and then deleted. You can delete your visible history sooner; what we are legally obliged to keep, we keep, and we will tell you what that period is if you ask.
  • Account and payment records — for as long as you have an account, plus the period required for tax and accounting.
  • Technical logs — a rolling window, then deleted or aggregated.
  • Verification records — for as long as the verified number is in use on your account.
  • Transcripts — for the number of days stated in the product, then deleted automatically. You can delete any of them sooner, and switching transcripts off stops new ones without touching the ones already there.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, delete or restrict processing of your personal data, to object to processing, and to complain to your data protection authority.

Write to privacy@kliwe.com and we will respond within the period the applicable law requires. Deletion requests are honoured except for the records we are legally required to retain, and we will tell you specifically which those are rather than refusing in general terms.

Cookies

This marketing site uses only what it needs to function: one cookie that remembers the language you picked, and aggregate analytics. The dialler uses a session cookie to keep you signed in. No advertising or cross-site tracking cookies anywhere.

Changes

When this policy changes materially we will update the date above and notify account holders before the change takes effect.
